The urgency is real. Canada’s Bill C-8, which enacts the Critical Cyber Systems Protection Act, received Royal Assent on June 16, 2026. It will introduce mandatory supply chain risk management obligations, phased in over the coming months, for designated operators across sectors including banking, telecommunications, energy, and transportation.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration also requires SBOMs in premarket submissions for connected cyber devices. For many organizations, the compliance clock is already running, and waiting for an annual procurement cycle is no longer a practical option.
